Trump's Plan for Ag Workers and NCBA Applauds Tariff Strategy
From the Ag Information Network, this is your Agribusiness Update.**President Trump on Thursday proposed a new program to help legalize farmworkers and reduce the risk of farmers losing undocumented workers to mass deportations.
This marked the first time the president had signaled a willingness to temper his mass deportation plans to help protect the labor pool for industries like agriculture.
Under the program, undocumented workers would be given a chance to self-deport and return to the country legally.
**Ethan Lane, the senior vice president of the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association, attended President Trump’s reciprocal tariff announcement at the White House.
He says for too long, America’s family farmers and ranchers have been mistreated by certain trading partners around the world.
For example, Australia has sold roughly $29 billion worth of beef to American consumers, while we haven’t sold even $1 of fresh U.S. beef in Australia due to non-scientific barriers.
**Today may be Tax Day, but it’s also the last day for farmers to sign up for USDA’s farm safety net programs.
The Farm Service Agency’s Agriculture Risk Coverage and Price Loss Coverage programs are two key safety net programs created to protect farmers from significant crop losses due to fluctuations in crop prices or revenue.
