China and Ag Trade Pt 2
From the Ag Information Network, I’m Bob Larson. China is a top trading partner, and the President’s threats of more tariffs won’t make that relationship an easy one moving forward.U.S. Representative Dan Newhouse says one of the major challenges with China is their involvement in our drug crisis …
NEWHOUSE … “They do, as we’ve talked about before, manufacture 98% of the fentanyl in the world. A lot of that comes into the United States, across our southern borders. And they encourage that. They incentivize that production of fentanyl.”
And that obviously, Newhouse says can’t be overlooked …
NEWHOUSE … “We’ve got to play hardball with China, we absolutely do. And so, being on the select committee on China, I had the opportunity to hear about many of the things that they’re engaged in.”
So bottom line, Newhouse says we need to hold our ground ...
NEWHOUSE … “And they absolutely do pose a threat, so I’m supportive of the President being very tough as far as it goes with his relationship, with our relationship with China and making sure that we are not taken advantage of or harmed by actions that they take.”
Tariffs on Canada and Mexico have been delayed until at least March 4th, as negotiations continue.
