Last week Alabama Agriculture Commissioner Rick Pate introduced the “Thank a Farmer” initiative at a press conference held at Ravello Ristorante in Montgomery. The campaign aims to boost public appreciation for farmers and highlight the origins of our food, with support from community leaders including Chef Nicholas Wyatt, local produce farmer Kelvin Anderson, and State Senator Will Barfoot. Commissioner Pate stressed that the initiative honors farmers as frontline workers—a role underscored during the Covid pandemic—and builds on the successes of Sweet Grown Alabama.

The comprehensive effort involves marketing, advertising, and media outreach across television, radio, digital platforms, print, and social media. Chef Wyatt emphasized that using Alabama-grown ingredients supports local neighbors and the economy, while Anderson described farming as both a livelihood and a way of life. Senator Barfoot highlighted agriculture’s vital role in sustaining Alabama’s economy and securing a future for the next generation.
