Southeast Summit Tackles Farmland Loss
If you farm in the Southeast, you've probably seen it happening. Farmland gets sold, development moves in and keeping land in agriculture can get more complicated.
Those pressures are behind a new regional event coming up this fall.
The University of Tennessee Institute of Agriculture and Tennessee Farm Bureau Federation are hosting the first Southeast Farm and Forest Land Summit October 12 in Columbia, Tennessee.
The idea is to get farmers, agricultural leaders, state agencies and university researchers in the same room to talk about the rapid loss of farm and forest land and, more importantly, what can actually be done about it.
They'll dig into the Southeast agricultural economy, farmland investment and land use trends. They'll also talk profitability, succession planning, public policy and one of the big questions for agriculture's next generation: how young and beginning farmers can get access to land.
It's a day-long event, and registration is $20.
