A New Season (for Cotton) in Washington, D.C.
It’s a season of change in Washington, D.C. Robbie Minnich, the National Cotton Council’s Vice President of Washington Operations, outlines their priorities under the new administration…“I think the first priority is getting Brooke Rollins, who was nominated to be the Secretary of Agriculture, confirmed in the Senate and get her title to be Secretary Rollins.”
Minnich says he doesn’t expect any issues with the process, praising her credentials and positive feedback from recent meetings…
“Once she is in place and she gets a team in place under her, for USDA it’s going to be implementing that economic assistance program, implementing the weather-related disaster program. But broadcast picture, I think, both congress and the administration is really going to be focused on tax and trade issue.”
The Tax Cuts and Jobs Act expires this year, so Minnich reports that a keen focus will be on renewing those tax provisions before they expire which, as we well know, is something that still has yet to happen for another LARGE piece of legislation…
“We’re certainly going to be pushing congress and the administration to all work together to get a farm bill done as early as possible so it can be effective for the 2025 crop.”
