Bayer Crop Science is set to launch new initiatives in the carbon market in 2025. Ben Runge, sustainable systems agronomist at Bayer shares insights on this upcoming project.

“So the carbon market is in a space that is ever evolving, and we're seeing, you know, new programs and new opportunities coming out every day. And Boyer is certainly no exception to that. We're rolling out our 2025, program. And, you know, we're excited to really bring a lot of opportunities to growers to capture some incentives for doing the right things on their farm. You know, implementing things like no-till strip-till cover crops, nutrient management.”

Bunge explains how it works. “

We offer practice based payment incentives for the adoption of no till, strip till or cover crops. We also have a nutrient management program, and if growers sign up between now and the end of the year, they have the opportunity to earn up to a $3,000 essentially call it a sign-on bonus between now and the end of the calendar year,”

Although farmers are currently implementing it, there is still an incredible amount of opportunity for adoption, according to Bunge,

“We see a lot of opportunity in terms of better soil health, with regard to better water carrying capacity, better nutrient retention, better soil structure. So there's a lot of great opportunities to implement these things that have a very significant benefit to the farm but also a benefit to the broader environment around them.”
