NCBA Doubles Down on Dietary Guideline Distaste
The National Cattlemen’s Beef Association is doubling down on its concerns about the recent proposed changes to U.S. dietary guidelines. Despite what they say is strong scientific evidence supporting beef as part of a healthy diet, NCBA reports that a committee is recommending reduced red meat consumption in those guidelines.NCBA President and Wyoming rancher Mark Eisele stated, “Most Americans already eat beef within recommended levels. This reduction is a solution in search of a problem.” He emphasized that public health advice should be based on the full scope of evidence, which highlights beef’s critical role as a nutrient-rich protein in various diets.
A 3-ounce serving of lean beef delivers half the daily protein needs and 10 essential nutrients, including iron and B vitamins, with fewer than 170 calories.
The report is now open for public comment for 60 days. NCBA will continue advocating for beef’s positive role in health as federal agencies prepare the final guidelines.
