California Health Officials Issue Raw Milk Warning
The California Department of Public Health (CDPH) has issued a second warning urging consumers not to drink raw cream-top whole milk from Raw Farm, LLC, based in Fresno County. This follows the detection of bird flu virus in another retail sample. Raw Farm has voluntarily recalled the affected batch, identified by lot code 20241119 and a “Best By” date of December 7, 2024.No human cases of bird flu linked to this milk have been reported, but public health officials emphasize the risks associated with raw milk, which is unpasteurized and can harbor harmful pathogens. Symptoms of bird flu in humans may include eye irritation, fever, cough, and fatigue. Anyone experiencing these symptoms after consuming the product should contact their healthcare provider.
Pasteurized milk remains safe to drink, as the heating process eliminates viruses like bird flu. State officials are increasing testing of raw milk to safeguard public health.
Consumers are advised to return the affected product to its place of purchase for a refund. The CDPH continues to monitor the situation and urges Californians to choose pasteurized dairy products to reduce risks.
