UGA Number 1 on Commercial Products and Pork and Beef Exports Up
From the Ag Information Network, this is your Agribusiness Update.**The University of Georgia again ranks No. 1 among U.S. universities for the number of commercial products to market based on its research, according to an AUTM survey.
For nine straight years, UGA has placed in the top two and has been in the Top 5 in all 11 years the survey has been reported.
In 2023, UGA industry partners and startups released a record 66 new products developed from the university’s research.
**USDA data compiled by the U.S. Meat Export Federation shows September U.S. pork and beef exports were higher year-over-year.
Pork exports were 5% above last year’s pace at 2.3 million metric tons, with the value 7% higher at $6.36 billion.
U.S. beef exports reached nearly 104,000 metric tons, up 5%, while export value rose 6% to almost $844 million.
This year, exports are up 5% in value but down 2% in volume.
**The U.S. Treasury issued a final rule that significantly expands its ability to review real estate transactions by foreign buyers near military bases.
The Treasury, Chair of the Committee on Foreign Investment, says it has authority to review certain real estate transactions near specified military installations and to take the appropriate actions when necessary.
