From the Ag Information Network, I’m Bob Larson. In a bipartisan vote, the House of Representatives passed the Fix our Forests Act to restore forest health and increase resiliency to catastrophic wildfires.

Sunnyside Republican Dan Newhouse applauds the measure and says it’s an important first step in protecting our forests …

NEWHOUSE … “An effort to improve how we manage for and fight forest fires which, as you know, have been a, even though we’ve made progress we continue to struggle with the overwhelming number of acres that need to be better managed in our country.”

Wildfires, Newhouse says have become far too common …

NEWHOUSE … “Every summer it seems like our valleys, our region is covered in smoke. And so, this is an effort to not only manage better, but to really reset how people think about the question of forest management.”

Effective management, Newhouse says can be a win-win …

NEWHOUSE … “We’re promoting conservation versus the long-held perspective or belief that we need preservation. I think conservation includes a much more active forest management.”

Tune in tomorrow for more on the Fix Our Forests Act and forests need our attention.
