**California’s role in U.S. food security took center stage at a recent hearing in the Central Valley, where lawmakers and industry experts discussed impacts of environmental regulations on agricultural water needs.

Jason Phillips, CEO of the Friant Water Authority, says regulatory decisions and legislative inaction have forced the state away from water abundance.

Phillips says these decisions have been taking water away from farms and communities.

**A bipartisan group of Senators are calling on the administration to protect America’s dairy industry.

They want to ensure that plant-based imitation products are not equated in upcoming dietary guideline changes.

The officials are asking the Department of Health and Human

Services and USDA to carefully consider any changes to the upcoming Dietary Guidelines for Americans that could add plant-based imitation products into the dairy category despite their nutritional differences.

**Ag Secretary Tom Vilsack says he’s confident a clean fuels tax credit program set to take effect next year will be finalized by January.

Farm Policy News says an April guidance for the SAF tax credit disappointed ethanol producers by requiring a set of climate-friendly farming practices that meant little to no ethanol would qualify.

Vilsack is hoping to make more feedstocks and individual farming practices eligible for the credit.
