A Bump Up in Livestock Inspection Fees
Increased livestock inspection fees here in the state of California. With California Ag Today, I’m Haylie Shipp. This is the Ag Information Network.
Governor Gavin Newsom on Friday signed five bills into law and vetoed 1. While I won’t give you the details on them all, here’s the one of note for California agriculture: AB 2436 by Assemblymember Juan Alanis (R-Modesto).
The bill raises livestock inspection fees across the board. This includes an uptick in the inspection fees for cattle being moved out of state from $1.50 a head to $1.60 a head, cattle buyers paying 80 cents a head instead of 70 cents, and carcass inspection going up from $2 per carcass to $2.10.
In a statement post to their social media accounts on Friday, the California Cattleman’s Association stated that, “Today, the Governor announced that he had signed CCA-sponsored AB 2436 (Alanis), a bill which will enable the Bureau of Livestock Identification to remain revenue-neutral in the years to come. CCA thanks Assemblyman Juan Alanis for authoring the legislation and commends Governor Newsom for signing it into law.”
