Hear from the Farmer: Hemp and Adolescents
With your Southeast Regional Ag News, I am Haylie Shipp. This is the Ag Information Network. As we told you here on this program some days back, two companies in the state of Florida are now seeing enforcement actions from the state following food inspections that revealed hemp products attractive to children.
Last week I spoke with Jammie Treadwell, a hemp farmer and founding member of Florida Hemp Farmers in central Florida…
“There has recently been a lot of concerns about products that were attractive to children. In the state of Florida, our hemp regulations already included from the very beginning that we had to have child-safe and food-safe containers. That’s a simple step that makes something less attractive.”
She also said Florida has strict labeling guidelines outlining what is within the package…
“In the state of Florida, two sessions ago, they added age restrictions. (You) can’t sell anything ingestible or inhalable to anyone below 21. Any other types of products like topicals are only sellable to 18 and up. We should see less of those types of products and I think sometimes when we see these controversial topics, people assume that’s every product. I think it’s only a small percentage. And I think these legal changes which the industry is embracing and participating in should see those products be eliminated.”
