08/14/06 Raspberries are done

Raspberries are done. I'm Greg Martin with today's Fruit Grower Report. I have always had a soft spot for raspberries. We had one lone bush in the back yard and every year it was filled with these sweet, red berries. Even though the raspberry is not as mainstream a fruit crop as say apples, according to Henry Bierlink, Executive Director of the Washington Red Raspberry Commission, Washington State is the largest producer of the berry. BIERLINK: Bierlink says that most of the Washington State raspberries are grown in Whatcom county and wind up frozen. BIERLINK: Tomorrow we look at how this year's crop is adding up. That's today's Fruit Grower Report. I'm Greg Martin on the Northwest Ag Information Network.
