From the Ag Information Network, I’m Bob Larson. AgWest Farm Credit has announced a new grant program that provides one-time startup funds of $15,000 for those looking to get their agricultural business off the ground.

AgWest Vice President, Jesika Harper says the grant program is to help those who are really prepared and have thought this through …

HARPER … “The goal is through the application process and getting to know them at that early stage, we can help foster their growth kind in a way that would be appropriate for a positive ag lending experience later on, into the future and help them get started.”

And, Harper says get them off on the right foot …

HARPER … “We want to help people just get that really positive start as opposed to maybe finding financing when they maybe shouldn’t have got it or it isn’t structured appropriately for what they’re trying to get done.”

Understanding their plan, Harper says is key …

HARPER … “Without having a good foundation of understanding of a cashflow budget and what’s their business plan, you know, covering all those important aspects, we can’t be sure of their long-term viability. Som it’s important in the application process to know that they’ve thought through those things.”

And the application deadline? …

HARPER … “Yeah, they’ve got through the end of August. So, we’ll be taking those right until the last day of August. So, there’s about a month and a half left.”

Tune in tomorrow for more on the AgWest Startup Grant program.
