CCP Agland Legislation Pt 2

From the Ag Information Network, I’m Bob Larson. Worries about China buying up U.S. agricultural land are the basis behind new legislation introduced by U.S. Representative Dan Newhouse and the House Select Committee on the Chinese Communist Party.

The Sunnyside Republican says what it comes down to is food security …

NEWHOUSE-15 = 11 … “If, for instance, the CCP could stop a major food from being produced or sourced for the American public, that would put us in a very compromised position.”

The CCP, Newhouse says plans things long-term and controlling supplies is key …

NEWHOUSE-17 = 17 … “We would be held to the whims of an adversarial agent, if we had our food supply chains compromised, or if they had any control over any part of the food supply chain. And so, just like any other aspect of our national defense, food security is a huge part of that.”

If not now, Newhouse believes we will regret it …

NEWHOUSE … “But certainly, we want to have our eyes wide open and make sure that we don’t, like I said, wake up years from now wishing we would had taken stronger actions to prevent them having a stake in our food supply chain. So, that’s exactly why we’re doing what we’re doing.”

Newhouse says food security IS national security … so we really need to get a handle on this now.
