Washington Ag June 26, 2006 Washington State University Extension Weed Specialist Joe Yenish says he was honored and humbled to be this year's recipient of the Kenneth J. Morrison Extension Award in Crop and Soil Sciences. The award, named for an Extension agronomist who worked at WSU for more than 35 years, recognizes WSU Extension faculty for significant contributions made to agronomic crop production and soil management. Yenish received the award at last week's Palouse Conservation Field Day.
Yenish: "Didn't have the good fortune to meet Kenny Morrison, but from what I gather he had a very similar philosophy to mine with regard to extension. Take it right to the client base. While we have to do things in a broad brush manner, but nothing really substitutes for that one-on-one contact we have with growers, homeowners, and any other clients across eastern Washington."
And Yenish says it is that interaction with growers that is the most rewarding part of his work.

With a Ph.D. from North Carolina State University, Yenish joined the WSU faculty in 1996.
