From the Ag Information Network, I’m Bob Larson. Potato Day 2023 is coming up February 21st and is a day when folks from the potato industry head to Olympia to serve up some of the nation’s favorite vegetable for everyone in the Capitol building.

Matt Harris, Director of Governmental Affairs at the Washington State Potato Commission, says they’ll have a great crew for this year’s celebration …

HARRIS … “Yeah, we do. We get potato seed growers, we get farmers from, you know, all over the Columbia Basin and all over the Skagit Valley and Whatcom County. So, we have growers from kind of all aspects of production and going and telling our story. And it’s a great opportunity to meet with legislators.”

The buffet setup, Harris says should be up and running, and delicious, by late morning …

HARRIS … “You know, we have to be in Olympia by 10:00am and then, you know, by 10-11:30, we’re handing out hot baked potatoes and we’ll do that until about 1:00 o’clock in the afternoon. We’re going to bring over 1,600 potatoes and, hopefully, we’ll serve everyone of those and we’ll have an enjoyable time.”

Harris says they’re really looking forward to it …

HARRIS … “It’s going to be a great day and a great time for our potato families to come in and showcase what we do best and that’s grow a great, wholesome, nutritious food.”

Harris says some of this year’s Potato Day topics will include the ag overtime law and the buffer bill.
