06/20/06 organic Myths

I am beginning to sound like a broken record but I simply can't fathom the preponderance of myths spewed week after week by a bias media about organic food. The poor GP (general public) lives virtually unaware of this indoctrination. It hits you from everywhere. For instance the insert, USA Weekend in last Sunday's paper carried an innocent enough article titled "What's in your Burger" that cited the fact that nearly one-third of US children eat fast food daily and how unhealthy that is. Good information but subtly inserted in the piece is a warning to buy only organic meat, inferring that (despite scientific evidence to the contrary) traditionally raised meat is harmful and unhealthy. The author justified the often three time higher cost of organic foods for those who can't afford them by glibly remarking that "when you consider the cost of bypass surgery or dialysis fast food isn't so cheap". Appalling, elitist and a blatant lie, yet the majority of our nation laps it up without a question.
