We have a new export to Mexico and it ain't apples& it's antelope. In the Baja and Sonora regions antelope herds are struggling, some, even nearing extinction. In an effort to help replenish native Mexican herds the US is donating North American pronghorn antelope. Wyoming has volunteered to share from it's abundant antelope herds. Currently Mexican and Wyoming state wildlife officials are in the process of capturing young antelope that will then be airlifted into Mexico. Now, having observed my share of the regal beasts cover the countryside at amazing speeds I would imagine it would be extremely difficult to catch a wild antelope but wildlife officials have trapping them down to a science using nets. While antelope appear fragile they are apparently quite hardy and the success rate of this program that has been in place for over six years now has reportedly low mortality rates. Guess we aren't the only ones who enjoy a trip to Mexico.
