Cliff's Dog
Almost everyone likes dog stories. I'm Jeff Keane and I'll be back in one minute with a dog story for you.
When Cliff was a young man, he had one good dog and one most-of-the-time good horse except for that odd time now and then when she would buck Cliff off not just off but with flare, as Cliff always did a summersault and lay-out over her ears that culminated with Cliff flat on his back. Cliff's good cow dog was lost in an unfortunate accident so Cliff found himself working cattle with just his one mostly good horse. Cliff happened on a sheep camp one day and during the visit with the sheepherders they said they had a dog Cliff could have since he was too aggressive for sheep work. Cliff was tickled pink as he put a leash on the dog, gathered him in his arms and stepped on his horse. Just so he wouldn't loose his new prize Cliff dallied the dog's leash to the saddle horn. Cliff left that sheep camp with a fine dog in his arms and his horse stepping out nice. Everything was fine until the dog slipped in the saddle and dug toenails into the horse. Cliff didn't last nearly as long as normal until he did his patented flip and back flop, but he was pointed in the right direction so he could see the dog was still tied to the pitching horse. The dog looked like a paddleball for about four more jumps until his collar slipped off. Mr. Dog rolled, then came up running with ugly thoughts about cowboys and beautiful thoughts of being a sheep dog. I'm Jeff Keane.
