Georgia Eases Screwworm Entry Rules
If you’re moving livestock or other animals into Georgia, there’s been another change in the rules tied to New World screwworm.
The Georgia Department of Agriculture has lifted additional entry requirements for animals coming from New Mexico. That follows USDA APHIS removing the state’s New World screwworm infested zone designation on August 30.
No additional cases have been detected there since the initial case was confirmed June 7. State and federal experts determined the requirements for releasing that zone had been met.
For animals moving from New Mexico into Georgia, that means a return to Georgia’s standard entry requirements.
But this isn’t an all-clear on screwworm concerns in the Southeast.
Georgia Agriculture Commissioner Tyler Harper says the state’s animal health team remains on high alert to protect livestock and pets.
And if you’re moving animals from Texas, pay attention. Additional animal movement requirements for entry into Georgia remain in place.
