Potato Expo in Anaheim Pt 1

I’m Bob Larson. It may be the “New Normal” but this year’s Potato Expo was held last week in Anaheim, live and in-person, and by all accounts was a huge success that went off without a hitch.

National Potato Council CEO Kam Quarles says it felt really good following a difficult two years without these connections …

QUARLES … “And then also, I think, our team here at NPC has constructed a really deep, substantive program. It’s the best Expo by far, in terms of structure and substance, that we’ve ever delivered for the industry, and I think people really are glad to be part of it.”

The best things about Potato Expo, Quarles says is the “family” feeling …

QUARLES … “Even though, this is a huge industry, we’ve got commercial production in over 30 states, we export around the world. $4.5 billion dollars in annual sales and many billions more in indirect economic impact, but it’s still a very tight-knit family, person-to-person relationship that drives the potato industry.”

And after last year, Quarles says this was great …

QUARLES … “Absolutely wonderful attendees that come every single year and it was hard for them not to be with us last year going virtual. We made the best of a bad situation and from a public safety perspective, that was the right thing to do with pandemic, but we really wanted to be back in person and we’re so glad we’re here.”

Tune in tomorrow for more on the 2022 Potato Expo held last week in Anaheim.
