California AG today. I'm Mike Stephens. John Roncoroni Weed Science Farm Advisor, Emeritus, UC Cooperative Extension, Napa Valley, specializing in weed control, vegetation management in perennial crops, cover crops and aquatic weed control. Also, his areas of expertise are in plants and their systems and wine grapes to name a couple. He recently describes that there are very few herbicides available to use to know your crops and to think about the biology of the weeds.

We think that glyphosate is safe, but the winery says no. So what do we do? This is the question. I get a lot What do I do? So we start looking it at a few other things. You know, it's kind of discouraging when you spend an hour or two hours talking about ID and biology, a weeds comes up to you and says, Hey, John, it's down to work. Well, yeah, it's OK. Thanks. So am I happy about why people are using less roundup? No. Am I happy that people have to think about weeds again? Have to think about their sprayers, have to think about biology and idea again and IPF for weeds. I'm ecstatic. What it happens when they're say no, but I have to say so. These are the herbicides plus or minus a few now that are registered in the grapes. So no glyphosate, no big deal, right? You still got all this stuff? Well, there's not as many herbicides as we think. So what are the essentials of a good idea on program for weeds, though the ecology and dynamics of your crop?
