BL: Welcome back to another “Fruit Bites” brought to you by Valent U.S.A. With us this week is Valent’s Travis Schoenwald. And this week Travis, we are talking about driving sprayers too fast in the orchard.

TS: Coverage is key. That’s the motto for all companies selling product, but when you’re a grower, getting the job done is more of the motto. Sometimes this can lead to driving sprayers too fast in the orchard and not getting the best coverage.

BL: how can you balance the two? Get good coverage but not drive in turtle gear?

TS: Most products require thorough coverage because they control by contact, not systemically. So, slow down the sprayer to about 1.5 mph. Avoid sticker-type adjuvants with translaminar products as they inhibit uptake. Make sure to spray every row and not skip. Get some water sensitive paper or apply kaolin clay to see how your coverage looks in the orchard and at different times of the season.

BL: Well, thanks Travis. Join us again next time for Fruit Bites, brought to you by Valent. Until then, I’m Bob Larson.
