Agriculture continues to change and evolve, and technology has only accelerated the pace of these changes. In order to keep up with their farmer customers, trusted advisors like agronomists and consultants need technology of their own. Shannon Winny of GroWest Ag Ventures says pen and paper just no longer cuts it.

Winny… “Right now we're dealing with such large fields. We have fields that are up to 1200 acres in size. You can't keep track of every area in those fields with a pen and paper, you need geo referencing. You need to have all of that data to say, okay, this is where this weed patch is, or this is where, you know, we're seeing bug outbreaks. We need to spray this area specifically, and not the areas around it. Agriculture is just changing so rapidly and we need to start really targeting specific zones and how to effectively manage those zones.”

Winny uses a tool called FarmQA to communicate seamlessly with her farmer customers, but also to organize that data for future years.

Winny… “Next year, I want to be able to look back and say, okay, what was I seeing in this spot on the field? So you can't just effectively text guys and say, oh yeah, this is where I saw it today. You're good to go. You still need to have some sort of app system to keep those records for you.”

Winny says this allows her to save time and be more effective for her farmer customers.
