US wheat associates recently took a trade team to Colombia for the Latin American Milling Association Conference, a three-day event focused on regional market trends, sustainability, and ongoing geopolitical and supply and demand discussions. This came at a crucial time, as demand for US wheat continues to rapidly increase in Latin America. US wheat associates market analyst Tyllor Ledford,

“One key highlight of the conference is this year, our exports into Latin America are very, very strong. Year over year, they're up about 62% so us being there just continues to strengthen that partnership with the Colombian millers and with the Latin American milling industry as a whole, on average, one in three bushels finds a home in Mexico, the Caribbean, and South America.”

Ledfor says this nearby market has seen exports surge more than 100% with demand driven by population growth and new product development.

“They continue to diversify their diets, creating new bread products, new kind of convenience foods, as that's a trend that we're seeing globally. In addition, you know, their population is growing, and they do need to feed more people within their country.”
