The Future of Commercial Greenhouses

There are still challenges to bringing more robotics onto farms, not least of which are the unpredictable weather and conditions the hardware needs to be able to withstand. But greenhouses have the advantage of controlling a lot of these variables, and Netafim’s Shay Haxter says for this reason he sees a lot of autonomy entering the sector.
Haxter… “ In the future, we'll go for more robotics get into the picture. The less people we'll need in order to operate and to harvest. Everything will be controlled by a computer. AI is also getting into the picture to forecast and to operate some of the machines. I see this future around the corner almost the greenhouse will run by itself with robotics and ai. It'll be like a box that produces food.”
Haxter says this vision of the future is informing the future direction of the team at Netafim.
Haxter… “ We'll also continue to develop the irrigation side, but definitely also we are getting into robotics. We are doing some partnerships with some startups, partnering and developing some of the equipment in the greenhouse to fit more to our irrigation system and to our technology.”
