After a year of remote tours, Colorado Wheat Field Days are back in 2021 with live, in-person events.

The 2021 Colorado Wheat Field Days will be held June 10-16 at eleven different variety trial sites throughout Eastern Colorado.

Madison Andersen, Communications Coordinator at Colorado Wheat says it’s great to have wheat farmers back out in the 11 test locations throughout the state.

Andersen: “ This year we are featuring Dr. Esten Mason who is CSU’s new Wheat Breeder. He just started in August so we’re happy to have him along on the tour. We also hear updates from Dr. Jerry Johnson and Sally Jones Diamond who work with the CSU Crop Testing Program. They’re an integral part of putting these Field Days on. We’ll hear an update from Laura Potorff who will be the new Director of Seed Programs at CSU. She will also give an update as well as Brad Erker and Tyler Benninghoven who are both at Colorado Wheat. They’ll give an update on the three Colorado Wheat organizations.”

The program at each field day will feature a walk-through of the variety trial. While wheat growers are the primary audience for field days, the general public is more than welcome. No reservations are required but Andersen suggests planning ahead and having the test location’s GPS coordinates to more easily find them. The list is found at Coloradowheat.org.

The field days are jointly hosted by the Colorado Wheat Administrative Committee (CWAC), the Colorado Association of Wheat Growers (CAWG), the Colorado Wheat Research Foundation (CWRF), as well as CSU Crops Testing, and the Cooperative Extension.
