Like many in agriculture, the Colorado Wheat Growers have had to pivot to online meetings and demonstrations because of COVID-19.

Colorado State University and Colorado Wheat have gone from in-person to Virtual Wheat Field Days. Madison Andersen with Colorado Wheat:

Andersen: “Some people don't want to go out of their homes so we thought we could bring it to them. I’ll also add the Making Better Decisions book that is always handed out at this event, and has a lot of good information in it too, is also available to download online.”

Anderson says the Virtual Field Days will provide the growers and industry folks with the same information.

Andersen :”The include a series of videos that include an introduction from Dr. Jerry Johnson who is the head of the CSU Crop Testing Program. The main event is the walk through of three different variety trials at Arapaho and Holyoke with our CSU wheat breeder, Dr.Scott Haley. There’s also an update from Brad Erker who is the Executive Director of Colorado Wheat, Rick Novak who is the Director of See Programs at FloridaColorado State University. We also have highlights from private seed companies that feature varieties entered into the CSU trials too.”

These events allow growers to look at varieties on the market now and see how they grow and adapt in their local area. The Field Days also provide good information for people who work in the milling industry. People who work in local grain elevators also come to the events.
