Beef Prices Higher and Farmers to Families Extended

**To help artisan cheesemakers who’ve lost sales during the pandemic, the California Milk Advisory board has partnered with a private firm to offer boxes of assorted cheeses for sale directly to consumers.

The California Cheesemakers Select boxes will feature four different cheeses in each collection, available online.

The Milk Advisory Board says artisan cheesemakers have suffered from restaurant closures and restricted retail offerings during the pandemic.

**Retail beef prices jumped 13.2% from April to May, and 19.3% higher than May of last year.

That’s according to USDA’s Economic Research Service, which reported May’s all-fresh retail beef price was $7.04 per pound, compared to April’s $6.22 per pound.

May’s all-fresh retail beef price set a new all-time record high for the price series, dating back to July 1987.

Retail pork prices rose 4.0% from the prior month and 4.2% from last year, making it the highest price since November 2014.

**Ag Secretary Sonny Perdue announced the USDA will extend the contracts of select vendors from the first round of the Farmers to Families Food Box Program.

Perdue says these extensions are a testament to the great work done by these vendors in support of American agriculture and the American people.

USDA is extending contracts for current distributors for the next performance period, July 1- Aug. 30, for up to $1.16 billion of food.
