For California farms, ranches, and agricultural companies, employee health and wellbeing is a top priority. Tony Ramirez is the Safety Manager at Plantel Nurseries in Santa Maria. He was recently recognized by UnitedAg for his successful employee health initiatives. Ramirez has been creative and strategic about integrating wellness tips into his existing regular safety programs for the 350 employees at the vegetable transplant company.

Ramirez… “We added this to our existing programs. To where I have regular safety trainings and staff meetings. So what we did is we just added a little piece of the health and wellness program topics to those. So that we're constantly bringing up the programs or, you know, we're listening to needs of the staff. And it's just a source of communication between the employee, ambassador, and UnitedAg.”

Plantel Nurseries has added other programs like on-site flu shots and biometric screenings to make wellness a priority in the workplace.
