Washington Grown Renewed Pt 3

I’m Bob Larson. Telling the stories of agriculture in our state is the mission of Washington Grown, that was recently renewed for Season 8.

The Washington Potato Commission heads up production of this long-running TV effort of dispelling notions like those of former presidential candidate Mike Bloomberg questioning a farmer’s intellect …

VOIGT … “You know, we are using a tremendous amount of gray matter in our brains to figure out the solutions to the challenges that we have, so I’m really proud of the agriculture community. Unlike what Bloomberg says, we’re actually out there on the cutting edge of a lot of technology.”

The Commissions’ Chris Voigt says his group couldn’t do it alone …

VOIGT … “You know, the Potato Commission steps up to guarantee the funding and then a lot of other groups will start contributing, you know, $10,000 here, $5,000 there, $25,000 there. And so, we’ve been able to really develop a nice network of additional funding to make this program work.”

Voigt says it’s a team effort …

VOIGT … “Yeah, there’s a lot of partners, and we need a lot of partners, because there’s a lot of stories to tell. You know, we grow over 300 different crops in Washington state and nobody’s going to watch a show about potatoes every week, so, we’ve got to make sure that we cover all of the 300 crops. And so, it’s important that we have these partnerships and the ag communities have been great about coming together to support this effort.”
