There’s a new flag flying in Burley since November 2017. NewCold automated storage has been under construction and plans to go live in mid-May bringing high tech automation to the world of cold storage. NewCold will serve the logistics needs for frozen French fry specialist McCain Foods USA Inc.

“This facility is a state of the art logistics warehouse that is here in Burley to support McCain and support McCain's expansion. So we have ninety thousand pallets ninety thousand pallet locations 14 stories high the dimensions of the facility it's 300 feet wide by five hundred and fifteen feet long and then it goes one hundred and forty feet into the air.”

Mccain processes potatoes next door and New Cold Site manager Derek Bedky says the Burley location will be used as the gateway to Western markets.

“We here in Burley enjoy a great geographical location. We’re about one day away from being into the West. So we're going to be used as their gateway into California, Oregon, Washington and still being able to be very close here to the the processing facility of McCain. And we're storing mostly potato products here as well as what McCain has for their appetizer line. They will use us as a freight forwarder. We will combine and consolidate a lot of their products into pallets and ship there's those to their customers.” Bedky is in the final stages of hiring a workforce that will be trained to automate product movement from a computer.
