We are coming into a holiday season that is hectic and loaded with sweets. As parents it is easy for us to look to convenience foods when it comes to feeding our families, especially during this time of year but we should rethink this strategy and slow down a bit, skip that last stop on our list and make an extra effort to feed our children home cooked meals. That doesn't mean frozen pizza or burritos. It is beyond me how we can worry ourselves sick about our children using drugs or smoking yet not think twice about filling them full of fast foods and sodas loaded with salt, sugar fat and cholesterol. A recent study of more than 600 school-age children found that those who ate out four or more times a week, (gotta count those convenience store visits too ) frequently had higher blood pressure risk of heart disease and diabetes. My, there is something to be said for a home cooked meal, we all know it is beneficial for family relationships now it could save our children's lives. This holiday season, lets make time for it.
