Labor Conference Pt 1
I'm Bob Larson. WAFLA is holding three H-2A Workforce Summits next month focused on how seasonal employers can best utilize the federal program to attract a stable workforce. The Summits will be in Nampa, Idaho on January 9th, Clackamas, Oregon January 10th, and Wenatchee January 17th.On January 18th in Wenatchee will be the only all-day Labor Conference to address the labor and employment needs of agriculture and seasonal employers ...
DAN FAZIO ... "The crossover, I think, is really in the immigration reform piece where, on the day before at the workforce summit, we focus more on what changes will be coming down the road from D.C. to the H-2A program. And, the next day, we look at the same law, but with the perspective of what's it going to be for the current workforce that might struggle with not having their documents right."
WAFLA's Dan Fazio says it's an important distinction ...
DAN FAZIO ... "So, those are two very, very important concepts. The what are employers going to have to do with the workforce that's here now, that's working hard and maybe is having problems with documents, and then what are you going to do to make sure that it's easier to use the guestworker program. And, then the thing we will be talking about in both sessions is whether or not there's going to be an e-verify program."
Fazio says the Labor Conference will deal with more specifics than the Summits. Listen tomorrow for more on this comprehensive meeting in Wenatchee next month.
