Certain factions of the press rarely raise an eyebrow when an out break of e-coli occurs in the produce industry. Oh you might see a blurb on the news telling us to watch out for some bagged lettuce or green onions, but beyond that, nothing much more is made of it. But it is a different story if the tainted product happens to be meat, watch out, watchdog groups come out of the woodwork to stir the ant-meat crowd to a frenzy. So cattle feeders and producers will be ecstatic to learn that a that a new product currently under development by Elanco Animal Health, part of Eli Lilly is being formulated to target and destroy bad bacteria, like e-coli, while beneficial bacteria remains unharmed. The application will be easy, not a shot or a tube to deal with, it will be administered as a feed additive that fits nicely into the management practices of a feedlot. So do you think someone will come up with a way to feed our organic produce an anti-ecoli- additive? I hope so.. Source: American Rancher.com 10/4/2005
