In the good old days parents shared a common goal of getting kids to finish the vegetables on their plates. Today, in many families fast food wrappers have replaced tableware and iceberg lettuce in take-out tacos and hamburgers suffices for a side of vegetables, most pick out the tomatoes. With childhood obesity at epidemic proportion's and the traditional family falling to pieces, teaching children proper nutrition is becoming the responiblity of the school and our government. The USDA recently developed a new classroom curriculum using a child-friendly version of the new food pyramid that they are calling, MyPyramid. My Pyramid promotes the message "Eat Right, Exercise and have fun! The MyPyramide.gov website has already received more than 800 million hits and if the teachers step up to the table maybe the tables will be turned and it will be the children who will teach parents the benefits of a healthy diet. Wouldn't that be delicious? I'm Susan Allen and this is Food Forethought.
