USDA NASS to Collect Final 2016 Crop Production and Crop Stocks Data
As the 2016 growing season officially comes to an end, the USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service will contact producers nationwide to gather final year-end crop production numbers and the amount of grain and oilseeds they store on their farms.NASS Mountain Director Bill Meyer says in December NASS will be contacting Colorado ag producers
Meyer: "In the beginning of December we going to be conducting our last acreage and production survey for the row crops for the corn, sorghum, hay, dry beans and that data collection period will be going on basically the first two weeks of December. I really encourage everybody to help us out on this one because it is part of the County Estimate Program. As you are well aware of commodity prices are quite low and the Farm Service Agency programs are starting to make payments. A lot of those payments are based on our county estimate program. So with this data along with our row crop agricultural production survey we merge that data and come up with some county estimates. The more information we have, the better quality of those county estimates and also we are able to publish a lot more. So I really encourage producers, if you have the time — please do so. I would mention, also in that release we are going to be asking about winter wheat seedings. The first look at how much winter wheat will be in the country. The reports come out on January 12th of 2017."
