Weekly Hay Report

Here is USDA Grain and Livestock Reporter Greg Sanders with the Columbia Basin Hay report from last week.

Sanders: "This week we had about 5200 tons of hay trade. Compared to last Friday all grades of export and domestic alfalfa was steady. Trade slow and with light to moderate demand and retail/feed store steady in a light test. Alfalfa mid-square bales on the supreme quality sold for $165 per ton. Alfalfa small squares for the retail/stable market on the premium quality sold for $220 a ton. Timothy grass mid-square bales premium for the export market sold for $175 per ton."

In Idaho compared the previous week all grades of alfalfa were steady in a light test. Trade was very slow with light to moderate demand for non-rained on feed alfalfa hay. Mid squares of alfalfa rated supreme sold between $125 and $135 per ton and mid-squares rated good for export sold for $110 per ton.

In Oregon, prices trended generally steady compared to the previous week. In Central Oregon, meadow grass small squares rated good sold for $150 per ton. In Lake County large squares of alfalfa rated supreme sold for $180 per ton. In Klamath Basin large squares of organic alfalfa rated premium sold for $305 per ton. In Eastern Oregon large squares of alfalfa rated supreme sold for $140 per ton. In Harney County orchard grass large squares rated good sold for $150 per ton.
