Encourage Kids to Eat Their Fruit and Veggies
Nutrition experts recommend increasing consumption of fruits and vegetables for better health, and studies show that children who develop good eating habits are far less likely to suffer health problems later in life than children who do not learn to eat a balanced diet.Live Well Colorado’s Program Director for the School Food Initiative Gabriella Warner encourages both children and adults alike to eat more fruits and vegetables
Warner: It’s a prime opportunity to change the trajectory of the direction of where we are going in terms of obesity prevention. Again as a registered dietician fruits and vegetables are so important — not only for our heath — but it is a great strategy for kids because it really eliminates that, ‘Don’t do this, don’t do that’ because when you eat more fruits and vegetables and fresh produce you displace the amounts of unhealthy food that you eat; so it is a very healthy message as well.”
Warner emphasize focusing on locally grown produce.
Warner: “As an organization, Live Well Colorado does recognize that the Colorado farmers and food producers work really hard to bring produce to our communities. So supporting these efforts by choosing local supports the economy of our state as well. So it is a double win. In order to do that and purchase local, be sure to look for that Colorado Proud designation when you visit your local grocery store or farmers’ market.”
