Corn Bacterial Leaf Streak Disease Update

Corn Bacterial Leaf Streak Disease Update

Colorado State University's Bioagricultural Sciences and Pest Management plant pathologist Dr. Kirk Broders gives an update of the activity happening around learning more about the new corn disease Bacterial Leaf Streak

Broders: "Myself as well as extension pathologists in Nebraska, Kansas and Iowa have been hosting field days over the last two months really connecting with growers trying to show they what the disease looks like. Then having them report back to us whether first of all is the disease present, how prevalent is it and how bad is the disease severity — meaning how much of the leaf area affected. Then we are getting information to identify fields we want to evaluate for yield impact as well as fields we want to monitor in the future as we try to understand the epidemiology of this pathogen and how successive years of corn — so corn on corn fields — may have on next year's crop."
