Crop Insurance is Vital Program

Over the last 25 years, the federal crop insurance program has become a vital and critical risk management tool for farmers.

Past Administrator of USDA's Risk Management Agency Ken Ackerman is a proponent of keeping crop insurance in place to serve the risk management needs of farmers, lenders and consumers as he says crop insurance benefits more than just farmers.

Ackerman says right now there is "great uncertainty" on what the next Farm Bill will look like, given the 2016 election cycle. He says the next Congress needs to start right away at writing the next Farm Bill.
