Philippine Millers Appreciate and Value PNW Soft White Wheat

Joining a small group of influential Philippine media on a tour of U.S. Wheat, has been the Executive Director of the Philippine Association of Flour Millers Ric Pinca. He shares why Pacific Northwest soft white wheat works so well for Philippine products

Pinca: "From the United States the Philippines buys 95 to 98 percent of its total requirements. We buy from the Pacific Northwest in excess of 800,000 metrics tons of U.S. soft wheat. That is why we came over, to bring our friends from the Philippine media for them to understand the quality of the wheat that we buy, the consistency of the product that we make available to the Philippine market; and the reliability of supply that has been provided by Pacific Northwest growers. Making the product available at the quality, the time, and the consistency that we require."

Pinca says that U.S. soft white wheat fits their requirements to make the tasty soft bread and noodles that Philippino consumers enjoy. He continues

Pinca: "The Philippine market has been improving the past years and the flour market has been growing for the past three years at an average of 3 to 6 percent annually. That is why last year we over took Japan as the biggest buyer of soft white wheat."
