It is truly an incredible milestone! The Washington Apple Education Foundation Awards Over $1 Million in Scholarships this Spring! I ’m Susan Allen with the Fruit Grower Report. The Washington Apple Education Foundation announced at its annual board of directors meeting last Thursday the milestone of awarding $1 million in scholarships in a single year to college-bound students raised in fruit growing districts of Washington state. Jennifer Witherbee, Executive Director says it was her most favorite meeting she’s attended in the 15 years she has been with the organization

Witherbee: Well we did get to have an incredibly special Washington Apple Education Foundation annual meeting last week. It was held at Central Washington University campus where we got to share with everyone that for the first time the Washington Apple Education Foundation will be offering over a million dollars in scholarships to students this Spring. It’s just such an incredible milestone for the tree fruit industry.

I see that two hundred to two hundred and thirty students are slated to received scholarships, do you know who they are yet?

Witherbee: We know the dollar amount, but we don’t know exactly who is receiving each of those yet.

Washington’s tree fruit industry created the Washington Apple Education Foundation to serve as its charity 22 years ago. Over the years, industry members made it clear, by their comments and contributions, that they wanted to provide a path for young people from Washington’s tree fruit growing regions to attend college. They have sure achieved that goal! I’m Susan Allen with today's Tree Fruit Report
