FSMA Meeting & Summer Vacation

FSMA Meeting & Summer Vacation. I'm Greg Martin with today's Northwest Report.

FSMA is the Food, Safety Modernization Act and it' going to have a major impact on how agriculture goes about its business. The Idaho State Department of Agriculture is planning a meeting to provide an overview of the impact to ag. There are a lot os wrinkles in FSMA including new water rules. The meeting is planned for April 26 in Oregon, Idaho and will be targeted at small and mid-sized farms and operations.

If you are planning a summer trip with the family this year to the "other" Washington, you might make plans to check out the Smithsonian's new "Ask a Farmer" program. gives museum visitors a chance to talk with farmers and ranchers across the country via live question and answer sessions. Peter Liebhold of the National Museum of American History says the goal is to create a respect for modern day agriculture.

LIEBHOLD: We developed this ask a farmer series so that the American public can actually see farmers in action on their farms, on their ranches, really doing their everyday work. The history of agriculture is really critical for every American to understand; this is a nation that was built on agriculture, and agriculture remains critical today.

That's today's Northwest Report. I'm Greg Martin on the Ag Information Network of the West.
