Call for Centennial Farms

For many of us in agriculture, when we introduce ourselves we mention what generation we are on the farm or ranch. We are proud of our history and ag heritage. If your family's Colorado farm or ranch has been in your family for a century or more, you should apply for a Colorado Centennial Farms designation. The application deadline is April 29th.

Centennial Farms Coordinator Jenny Deichman shares more details about program's requirements.

Deichman: "To qualify as a Centennial Farm, you'll need to have a farm or ranch belonging to your family for at least 100 years. It must be a working farm and ranch with more than 160 acres. Or if fewer than 160 acres, must have gross yearly sales of at least $1,000. So that is all of the requirements."

This honorary designation if awarded provides a sign signifying that your farm or ranch is a Centennial Farm. There are approximately 500 Colorado farms and ranches that have been designated since the program began 30 years ago. She continues

Deichman: "It's very important for people to recognize the importance of agricultural buildings and people's efforts over time."

Deichman describes more about finding the application.

Deichman: "It's HistoryColorado.org. There is a little search bar on the top so you can type in Centennial Farm — it will take you right to the site. There is a button and you can download the application and fill it out and send it in to me. I generally get back to people in May that have applied this year."
