Is it just me or are Californians getting weirder and weirder. The latest fiasco involves air pollution, and while I am all for reducing emissions you would think the focus would be on LA, or even the Bay area but no, wacky Californians are instead targeting the wine region. The San Joaquin Valley air pollution Control District in typical California fashion hopes to be the very "first" group in the nation to impose air pollution restrictions on wineries. Wineries! Apparently that fermentation process that we all love that magically turns boring grapes into rich wine is now responsible for releasing ethanol into the atmosphere. The wineries are caught between a rock and a hard place. New equipment will make wine prices rise resulting in loss of market share. An attorney for the Wine Institute cited the fact that the ethanol emission from wineries is minuscule when compared to other pollutants. Come to think of it, when I worked in Napa the air was pretty pristine over the miles of vineyards. Sure didn't look that way over Oakland and I didn't see any wineries there
