Wage Increase & "Natural" Foods

Wage Increase & "Natural" Foods. I'm Greg Martin with today's Northwest Report.

Washington State has a high hourly wage and it may get a bit higher if a group of restaurant owners have their way. It seems the disparity of wages between towns is a problem according to Dan Fazio with wafla.

FAZIO: The restaurant association as announced that they're tired of fighting the minimum wage for all these different cities and so we're thinking there's going to be another new big minimum wage hike in the State of Washington statewide that's going to be before the state legislature this year.

The association wants a level wage across the board instead of different wages in different towns.

The FDA is asking the public to provide information and comments on the use of the term "natural" in the labeling of human food products. The FDA is taking this action in part because it received three Citizen Petitions asking that the agency define the term "natural" for use in food labeling and one Citizen Petition asking that the agency prohibit the term "natural" on food labels. The FDA has considered the term "natural" to mean that nothing artificial or synthetic  (including all color additives regardless of source) has been included in, or has been added to, a food that would not normally be expected to be in that food. FDA also did not consider whether the term "natural" should describe any nutritional or other health benefit.

That's today's Northwest Report. I'm Greg Martin on the Ag Information Network of the West.
