Beekeeping Seminar

Beekeeping Seminar. I'm Greg Martin with today's Fruit Grower Report.

There is something fascinating about bees and the whole process of pollination and honey making. I've often toyed with the idea of putting a hive in my back yard and now might be the time. Kate Halstead with WSU Snohomish talks about the upcoming beekeeping workshop.

HALSTEAD: It is our most popular workshop by far that we've ever offered. In fact, since 2008 we've offered it at least two or three times each year. Every single session fills before we actually have our start date so it's really, alway popular. We do limit the class size so that every has a good experience and what it is, is five Monday evenings, three hours each that takes you completely in-depth into all the basics of bee-keeping.

Halstead says the classes utilize the state beekeepers association manual.

HALSTEAD: By the end of the session on the last night you take an open book test and are given opportunities to learn and get a good score and then you are awarded a certificate at the apprentice level and you get a patch that can go on your jacket and you will also more importantly be well informed to go forward and keep bees.

You can sign up at masterbeekeeper.brownpapertickets.com. There's another class in February.

That's today's Fruit Grower Report. I'm Greg Martin on the Ag Information Network of the West.
